TMG to start trial with new procurement rules in June

Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) will introduce new rules for its public procurement system on a trial basis from Juni 2017. The move was spurred by the discovery of major irregularities in a number of large scale public works tenders such as the new wholesale market in Toyosu and a number of venues for the Tokyo2020 Olympics. Lack of real competition in these tenders led to prices being driven up to extraordinary heights and practices where tenders were won by bidders offering 99.9% of the projected price.

Tokyo to speed up its assessment of real estate value for fixed assets taxation

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) will enter talks with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) for a review of its procedures for assessing buildings to determine fixed assets tax. It will look into changing the current method to determine the costs of assets into a simpler method in order to give business owners a quicker insight into their tax liabilities. The aim is that MIC will change the evaluation standards, and introduce the simpler method nation-wide from 2020.

TMG starts Tokyo2020 business opportunity portal for SMEs in April 2016

Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) will launch a portal for SMEs with business opportunities related to Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Named "Business Change Navi 2020" the site will gather and publish tender opportunities for SMEs in preparation of the 2020 Games. Modelled after a similar initiative of the London 2012 Olympic Games organizers, the portal is meant to give SMEs better access to opportunities related to the Olympics.

Information on Tokyo Metropolitan Government Tender procedures added

Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) provides services to a population of almost 30 million inhabitants, which represents close to a quarter of the total population in Japan.  The public procurement demand generated by this huge organisation is most likely similar to that of some mid-sized European countries.  International interest in providing goods and services to TMG is on the rise recently, in particular due to the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
