Japan is one of the biggest global producers of steel, with export destinations all over the world. Paradoxically, at the same time the country has to import all of its resources needed for production. The country is also one of the biggest importers of aluminium, shipping over 4 million tons annually. Navigating in trade dispute between China and the US and building a more environmentally friendly industry are among the main issues that the industries have to deal with.
This website and related activities are managed by the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, a joint venture between the European Commission's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) and the Japanese Government's Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI).
