Report: Recent Evolution of Japanese Outbound Tourism and Recommendations for EU SMEs

Europe has been one of the most popular global destinations for Japanese tourists. Global COVID-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the tourism sector. Yet, despite all its transformative effects for the European tourism industry, one may expect that European SMEs will try to attract Japanese visitors in the coming years.

During the pre-pandemic times there were numerous factors affecting travel of the Japanese citizens to Europe, including the lasting effects of the aging society. The main purpose of this report is to analyse them, and present useful recommendations for the representatives of the tourist industry.
