The fact that Japan has the third largest GDP in the world and spends 3.39% of its GDP on R&D, suggests a very fertile R&D environment. Hence, this report gives an overview of EU companies with R&D centres in Japan and suggests several reasons for their establishment. It looks into different incentive programs for setting up a R&D Centre and provides several examples of already existing European companies with R&D activities in Japan.
