“My number” card used in Japan’s government procurement procedures

The Japanese government plans to use the cards used in its ‘My Number” social and fiscal number system for public procurement, reports Sankei News (J) A proposal for it is expected to be submitted to the current regular session of the Diet.

Advertising giant Dentsu barred from tendering over employee death

The 2015 suicide of an employee due to overwork at advertising giant Dentsu is alsop starting to affect its lucrative government business in Japan. The agency, that possesses close to a monopoly in publicly procured government advertising business, is being hit by regulations that require government institutions to suspend their suppliers if they are under criminal investigation. The Tokyo Labor Bureau has recently referred the company and officials to prosecutors.

Tokyo Olympics organizing committee to publish tender opportunities for SMEs on designated website

Nikkei Online reports on December 15 that the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games will start publishing its tenders on the “Business Chance Navi 2020” website from April 2017. It is expected that the Committee will place orders for goods for temporary facilities, such as tents and fences and equipment for the Olympic Village.
