Healthcare Equipment

While Japan’s medical equipment market has inevitably been damaged as a result of the 2011 tsunami, it remains an important market and a lucrative investment opportunity. Japan encompasses 10% of the global market, totaling €28.24 billion at the end of 2010. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan ranks as the third largest medical device market after the United States and the European Union. Furthermore, the market is expanding and will continue to do so as the percentage of people over the age of 65 rises from the current 23% to 36% by 2050. This demographic trend could benefit foreign companies in particular as Japan’s imports of medical products increase.
